G2 asserted their position for most of the match, overcoming Spirit's attempts to turn the tide and winning both maps.
After starting the campaign with a 0-13 defeat, G2 have now advanced to the semi-finals.
G2 secured a spot in the semi-finals at BLAST Premier World Final thanks to a 2-0 victory over Spirit, twice successfully resisting counterattacks from their opponents to maintain victories on Anubis (16-13) and Mirage (13 -10).
The European team will wait for the next opponent to be the winner of the match between MOUZ and Vitality, while Spirit will advance to the quarter-finals against FaZe to compete for a semi-final spot with Astralis.
G2's performance has been quite erratic recently as this team from overwhelmingly winning BLAST Fall Final had to leave IEM Rio at the bottom of the table. In Singapore, their form seemed to be getting better, when after a forgettable 0-13 defeat to Liquid, G2 won two consecutive maps to win 2-0 against Spirit.
This match could have been easier for G2 as they led 11-5 on Anubis before being pulled into extra time and could have ended earlier on Mirage if not for important clutches from Spirit. . Danil "donk" Kryshkovets had significant stops on both maps, but G2 still showed outstanding individual ability, especially Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov, and ultimately retained control in the big match.
Meanwhile, Spirit has not yet found its true form since the vacation. Their opening win against Vitality was somewhat fortunate as their opponent had to play with a stand-in, and they had to chase G2 throughout the series despite the relatively close score. Recently, G2 has become a tough opponent for Spirit when the Russian team has lost 8 out of the last 9 maps against G2's current lineup.
