The number 3 seed of the LCS region 100 Thieves has just been eliminated from the 2024 World Finals after a 0-2 defeat against PSG Talon. At the same time, 100 Thieves also set a record as the first North American team to be eliminated from the Play-in round of the World Finals.
At the 2024 World Finals, the LCS region brings 3 teams: FlyQuest, Team Liquid and 100 Thieves. In particular, 100 Thieves is the number 3 seed of the tournament, and ranked third in the entire LCS season. To win tickets to attend the biggest tournament of the year, 100 Thieves struggled to overcome two strong teams, Dignitas (3-2) and Cloud9 (3-1).

As a team from a large region, 100 Thieves is expected to easily pass the Play-in round, especially when this team has many young players and performed well in the knockout round. However, 100 Thieves was soon eliminated from the Play-in. Starting with a 1-2 loss to Rainbow7, 100 Thieves defeated SoftBank HAWKS but was eventually defeated 0-2 by PSG Talon, officially leaving the tournament.
Thus, 100 Thieves also set a record for being the first North American team to be eliminated from the Play-in round of Worlds 2024. This is also the 4th time this organization has attended Worlds after 2018, 2021 and 2022, however This team all entered the group stage straight and never had to compete from Play-in.
Currently, the LCS region will only have 2 representatives competing in the Swiss round of Worlds 2024: FlyQuest and Team Liquid. Accordingly, FlyQuest will meet GAM Esports and Team Liquid will face LNG Esports in the opening match of the 2024 World Finals.
In recent years, the achievements of the LCS region have not been too impressive. In 2023, NRG Esports is the only Western team to pass the Swiss round, but representatives from the LCS also face many advantages when constantly facing representatives from the LCS and LEC.
Even considering previous years, the LCS's best achievement was reaching the semi-finals of Worlds 2018, achieved by Cloud9. However, with the tournament continuously reducing the number of teams as well as poor international performance, the LCS's performance is not expected to be very positive in the coming years.
