Viewers will witness 3 regional matches in the first round of the tournament.

FURIA has the highest seed at the Opening Stage.

Perfect World has confirmed the first round matches of the Opening Stage of the Shanghai Major. These matches were determined by the November 25 Valve Regional Standings (VRS) update, which also determined the eight teams that would advance to the Elimination Stage.

Scheduled to begin on November 30, the Opening Phase will be held in a 5-round Swiss format, in which the knockout matches and qualifying matches will apply a best-of-three format. The top 8 teams will advance to the Knockout Stage, while the bottom 8 teams will go home.

The seeding process follows the results of the previous Major, with each region being allocated specific seeds based on team performance in the Copenhagen Major. The 24 teams were then ranked based on VRS.

This is why, for example, The MongolZ are seeded 15th despite being ranked 5th in the world according to Valve's rankings, and Virtus.pro is seeded higher (10th) than Liquid and Complexity, even though the Russian team is seeded ranked lower than 2 representatives from the Americas region.

The opening round will feature three regional matches, including a rematch between BIG and Passion UA – a match that took place in Europe RMR's 2-0 series. The MongolZ will face Rare Atom, while paiN will clash with Imperial.

Opening matches:

• FURIA vs GamerLegion
• Virtus.pro vs MIBR
• Liquid vs Cloud9
• Complexity vs FlyQuest
• BIG vs Passion UA
• Fnatic vs Wildcard
• The MongolZ vs Rare Atom
• paiN vs Imperial
