The long-standing Esports organization of North America will no longer be the first Counter-Strike team since 2014.

In a video posted on X, CEO Jason Lake of Complexity announced that the organization will withdraw from Counter-Strike and the current squad will leave. According to rumors, four players are negotiating to join Passion UA.

"As you can imagine, this is an extremely difficult day for us," Lake said. "We love Counter-Strike so much."

Complexity is one of the oldest eSports organizations that operate in Counter-Strike, first owning the CS squad in 2004 and maintained for almost all 24 years. During that time, the organization brought some notable titles such as ESWC 2005, CPL Summer 2006, and ESL Challenger Jönköping 2024.

In 2017, the majority of Complexity's shares were sold to Dallas Cowboys Jones and Real Estate Investors John Goff, before being acquired by Gamesquare in 2021. By 2024, Lake and a group of investors bought Complexity for $ 10.36 million, but the scarcity of financial contracts in North America made the financial difficulty.

"I know fans will have a lot of questions, and the answer is really simple," Lake said.

"After a successful 2023 and 2024, in 2025, the Esports economy was extremely difficult for us. Simply we could not create enough revenue to maintain a true Tier-One squad.

We may extend the situation for a while, but we want to make sure to do the right players and the CS department. This is the best decision at the moment.

We tried everything, looking for all investment and revenue sources, but the economic situation was really difficult. This year's revenue has plummeted forcing us to make this decision. "

Lake also rejected the possibility that Complexity will soon return to Counter-Strike, saying that first of all financial difficulties must be resolved. He also expressed his sincere thanks to the players and all the staff for accompanying the team.
